About Nyuyo

Nyuyo is a reference for mathematical symbols. Each symbol page gives the symbol's meaning, an example of how it is read aloud, and the codes you need to type it: the Unicode code point, the LaTeX command, and the HTML entity.

It currently covers 91 symbols in 11 categories. Start with the full list, or press / on any page to search.

Where the data comes from

  • Unicode. Code points follow the Unicode Standard published by the Unicode Consortium.
  • LaTeX. Commands are the standard ones from LaTeX and the widely used amsmath and amssymb packages.
  • HTML. Entities are the named character references from the HTML Living Standard. Where a character has no name, its numeric reference is given.
  • Meanings and examples are written for this site. Notation varies between fields and authors, so the meanings describe the most common uses.

Fonts

Symbols are shown as text in Noto Sans Math, which is released under the SIL Open Font License. Headings, numbers and navigation use Hanken Grotesk, under the same licence. Body text uses your device's system font.
